Description

NBA Live 2000 is a basketball simulation from the developers at EA Sports. It is the 1999 release of the NBA Live series for Nintendo 64. It features full-court, five-on-five play, a three-point shootout, and a one-on-one, half-court street fight featuring retired NBA superstar Michael Jordan. Real NBA teams and players are featured in each mode of play.

NBA Live 2000 features six basic play modes: Arcade, Exhibition, Season, Playoffs, 3-Point Shootout, and One on One.

NBA Live 2000’s Arcade Mode is a quick play mode featuring “hot” players, sweet spots, and turbo-powered bursts of speed. The rules are relaxed in Arcade Mode, so things like fouls, out of bounds violations, and backcourt violations will not be called. Players jump higher, run faster, and jam home more spectacular dunks in Arcade Mode. It’s five-on-five action with Hollywood special effects.

Exhibition games are more realistic NBA-style games for gamers who want to play a game without all the explosions but don’t want to play a full season. The rules are here. The commitment is not. Select the teams, press the Start Button, and go.

Season Mode allows players to take one team through an entire NBA schedule in the hopes of winning a championship. Players can set the length of the schedule, and the format of the playoffs at the end of the season. Gamers can trade and release players, sign free agents, create and sign custom players, and even create custom teams featuring NBA and custom players.

Playoff Mode allows gamers to skip the regular season and go right to the NBA playoffs. As with Season Mode, gamers can set the playoff format to play more or fewer games to win the title.

The Three-Point Shootout allows between two and eight NBA superstars to sink 25 balls from behind the arc in a timed contest. The top players move onto the next round. Those at the bottom of the ladder are eliminated. The last player standing is the champ.

One on One Mode is a half-court game of street ball featuring Michael Jordan. Gamers choose an NBA player and go up against “His Airness” (or any other player) in a win-by-two battle on the asphalt.

Gamers do not have to take on Jordan, but if they do take him on and beat him, Jordan becomes unlocked. This means that gamers can now play as Michael Jordan in One on One Mode. It also means that Jordan is listed as a free agent in other modes and can be signed to any NBA team for season play. To keep Jordan unlocked, gamers must save their games to a memory card after defeating him in a One on One contest.

NBA Live 2000 features four-player support, rumble pack support, and memory card support.
