MTV Sports: T.J. Lavin’s Ultimate BMX marks MTV Sports’ second entry into the Game Boy Color line-up, after a skateboarding title released earlier in 2000. T.J. Lavin, a famous name within the BMX world, has given his moniker to the game, so you can expect it to be focused on big air and high-flying stunts in a freestyle environment.
The game takes a top-down, isometric view, much like Dave Mirra’s Game Boy Color title from Activision. One of the chief goals is to meet quotas by performing various tasks, such as reaching score goals on the ramps. These quota levels are mixed up with pure competition stages, where the goal is to acquire as many points as possible and take home the gold.
There are three different types of levels present within T.J. Lavin’s Ultimate BMX: vert, street, and dirt. Each has its own handful of objects and items to trick off of, and each claims to offer a different riding experience. The game possesses ten different tricks to pull off, including special moves that will score big points in competition.
Along with T.J. Lavin, other real-life BMX pros make appearances. In addition to selecting different riders, players can add variety to their experience by using money they’ve won in competition to buy one of four different upgrades to their bike.
